Membership in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Kansas City is by audition only. Auditions are held in May for the following season. Our season begins in late August and ends in late April or early May. Generally, rehearsals are on Sunday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and take place in the Instrumental Rehearsal Room in the Pillsbury Music Center at William Jewell College.
To be eligible to audition for the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Kansas City an applicant must be in good standing with their school ensemble director (string players must be enrolled in orchestra/wind, brass and percussionists must be enrolled in band) and have not reached their 19th birthday by September 1st of the season for which they are auditioning. Exemptions to the school ensemble requirement will be made only if the school the student attends does not have an ensemble, or the student is home-schooled.
Members of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Kansas City will enjoy the full symphonic experience, explore the stylistic spectrum of orchestral literature, compete and collaborate with musicians from different schools, prepare for college and community ensembles and have a great time exploring music with new friends.
